Grapes to Raisins in electron Microscopy


The following paper includes a Figure (shown below) that is used to highlight what happens to a biological sample when it is prepared for electron microscopy.


The processes involved in classic preparation steps for electron microscopy involve chemical cross linking, dehydration, extraction and relocation of both microstructure and chemical composition. These steps are  comparable to the dramatic metamorphosis that grapes undergo while being dried into raisins.
